Conditions for getting married in Bærum

Before a civil ceremony can take place, the Tax Administration needs to verify that conditions for marriage have been met. Several forms must be submitted to the Tax Administration, including:

Personal declaration – separate declarations from both persons wanting to marry.

Statement by the sponsors – statements from the maid of honor and best man.

If the documents and information provided fulfill the necessary requirements, the Tax Administration will issue what is known as a certificate of no impediment to marriage, which confirms that the conditions for entering into marriage have been met.

Please note that the certificate is only valid for four months, and that the certificate has to be valid on the day of the wedding. The certificate may thus be issued four months ahead of the wedding day as earliest. The marrying couple is responsible for applying.
